Fall is a time to get wrapped up in warm materials and colors. As the weather gets cooler, you can take advantage of the opportunity to wear jackets and scarves with wooly textures and you can do the same to your home. Try these tips to bring your decor to its rightful autumnal place.

Natural materials
Using wood, wool, cashmere and other natural items for your decor can make your home feel like it's right in season, interior designer Lauren Nelson told the San Francisco Gate. He suggests using lots of woven materials that are based in nature to get the feel of the time of year when the leaves are changing and we turn toward winter. The dynamic change in the season can also inspire a new range of colors to choose from.

Nelson suggests using combinations like dark walnut wood with navy blue and orange. Colors like this look great anywhere, from new throw pillows on the couch to your window shades. Using wood blinds or bamboo blinds can help complement the reds, browns and oranges that you'll want to bring into your home during the fall.

Variety everywhere
In autumn, you'll notice a wide variety of colors and weather happening all at the same time. One day can be warm and sunny while the next might be cool and cloudy. You can replicate that same eclectic feel in your home. According to the Associated Press, you can feel free to mix your wildest design ideas together into rooms bursting with energy this season. Since you'll be spending more time inside, it's good to have rooms that are as interesting as possible.

Since the light outside will be changing, autumn is also a great time to try playing with the amount in your home. You want to take advantage of the change outside to completely overhaul your light system, both in how much sunlight you allow in to what kind of fixtures you use. Try using blinds and shades that give you more control over your light levels. You might also want to consider using overstated lights like giant chandeliers or floor lamps that give off plenty of glow. They'll help to keep you and your family awake as it gets darker earlier and they'll add some fun to your decor.
