There's nothing more frustrating than seeing your hard-earned cash go out the window every winter due to leaky windows around your home. However, energy costs are a problem for many people. You aren't alone if you think that you're the only person looking for a solution to your heating bill every winter.

However, there are a few ways you can keep your money from going out the window (literally) with the right discount window treatments and preventative measures before the weather gets colder. Here are some tips on how to reduce your energy costs this winter and feel better about your financial health.

1. Find window treatments that work for home.
When was the last time you changed your window treatments? If it's been too long, now is the right time to do so before winter rolls in. Discount blinds can allow sunshine to flow into your home during the cold weather season and keep temperatures comfortable. After dark, they can be easily closed to help insulate the house. Double this up with thick curtains or drapes and you'll see your energy bill drop in no time.

2. Install double-pane windows.
If your windows haven't been upgraded in years, they likely aren't designed to hold up to the energy standards that have been set in the 21st century. That being said, you may be losing heat at a rapid rate every winter. It might be a bit costly, but it's in your best interest to replace your windows if this is the case before fall ends. Consider a double-pane option for the utmost insulation.

3. Use weather stripping.
In addition to bringing in new window treatments, consider using weather stripping around the house for even more insulation. Caulking around old windows is another measure you can take to reduce your heating bill further this coming winter. It might take some time to cover all the windows in your home, but it's worth the effort.

Not many homeowners think about their windows when it comes to making their energy bills more affordable, but the fact of the matter is that this is where a large amount of heat is lost during the winter. Renovations to your windows might cost you, but it's money well spent, and you'll see a return on it in your monthly expenses. At the end of the day, you can also gain peace of mind knowing you're reducing your carbon footprint.
