Eco-friendly bathroom improvements
By Payless Decor
10/13/2012 2:43:00 PM

A typical bathroom is one of the most important and frequently used rooms in any home. Between grooming before work in the morning, washing away the day before bed and everything in the middle, your bathroom can contribute to a lot of energy use during an average day. Because of this, you might want to consider making a few eco-friendly decor updates to this space. Not only will this help you lead a more sustainable lifestyle, but you'll also lend a fresh, new look to your bathroom. Here are some green design tips to get started.

Natural lighting
Your bathroom's lighting fixtures can use a lot of electricity over the months - particularly in the summertime when energy costs tend to be higher. Because of this, consider making natural lighting the primary means of illuminating this space in the daytime. If you're worried about nosy neighbors peeking through your windows, frosted glass along with cordless shades can provide you with privacy without cutting off your supply of daylight. These will also give your bathroom a nice decorative boost.

Conserve water
The most consumptive aspects of your bathroom are likely the shower, sink and toilet. In a given day, a family of four can use dozens of gallons of water, so replacing these appliances with more sustainable models should be on your list of bathroom updates. If your toilet was made before the early 1990s, you may want to replace it with a low-flush alternative. You can also install faucets in your shower and sink that inject air directly into the water stream to maintain pressure while limiting usage.

Antiquing
If you're looking to incorporate some new furnishings into your bathroom, antiques are the ultimate reusable decor materials. An old family heirloom or piece you find at a flea market can be just the touch your home needs to create a comfortable and attractive design.

How to choose shades for a young child's room
By Payless Decor
8/11/2012 1:09:00 PM

Furnishing and decorating a room for a young child is a lot different than how you'd go about doing the same for an adult-only space. Not only do you have to take taste preferences into account, but you have to really think about the functionality, practicality and safety of every aspect. It's enough to give parents a headache, but luckily it's easy to choose blinds and shades that are appropriate.

First and foremost, it should be noted that kids are curious creatures. They're always busy getting themselves into mischief by exploring and evaluating every little thing they can get their hands on. That's why it's important to make sure that nothing dangerous is within reach. Window shades are no exception. Instead of opting for types that have long strings or pulls, go with cordless shades.

You'll also need to make sure that the shades are thick enough to block out the light during daytime naps. Your little one may have trouble falling asleep if the room's not dark enough, and sunrays through thin, wide slats may present a problem.

How to stop your cat from ruining your window treatments
By Payless Decor
6/27/2012 8:38:00 AM

If you're a cat owner, you may know all too well how destructive those critters can get when it comes to your window treatments. Not only can they leave behind fur that's tough to get out of fabrics, but they might even shred your blinds and curtains with their claws. What's a feline lover to do?

For starters, consider buying cordless shades. Without a string to attract your cat's attention, these varieties won't tempt kitty to come closer, which could end up saving trailing window treatments as well. It may also help to make sure that your cat has other options nearby, like a tower or a scratching post.

If nothing seems to keep your furry friend away from the window coverings, you may need to take preventative measures. One option is to use double-sided tape on the areas of the curtains that your cat tends to favor. The sticky surface should be enough to repel him or her. You might also want to look into pet products that can make the area smell unattractive. Problem solved!

Get your blinds parts here!
By Cherri
5/10/2012 1:36:00 PM

We are happy to announce you can now purchase specific blind parts for your blind/shade repair or replacement!  For instance, if your pet (or kid) climbs on the back of your sofa and decides to make a chew toy out of the cords on your beautiful roman style bamboo shades.  Luckily, you can now replace the string by going directly to our web page and clicking on “blind parts” on the main page.  Easy instructions are also on this site on “how to re-string bamboo shades.”  Hopefully, this may never happen, but it’s reassuring to know you won’t have to live with “chewed” cords.

You’ve taken down your horizontal faux or basswood blinds to paint the room or have windows washed.  Now it’s time to hang the blinds again, only you find that the valance clips are nowhere to be found (we get calls on this one all the time).  Valance clips are now available for sale in sets of 3.

Last, but not least, we now offer Custom Crown Valances.  Say, for example, you would like to do inside mount blinds, but would prefer to have a valance on the outside trim of your window with side returns.  Now you have a chance to be creative without spending a lot of extra cash.

Cords and Valances come in a variety of colors to match your existing window treatments. Shipping is FREE.

Whatever the reason you may need to replacement parts for your blinds – we’ve got them!

Modern Pleated Shades
By Rondale
12/21/2011 1:40:00 PM

Our 2” Solids and Textured Pleated Shade are a great product to consider for your home décor as they are stylish and offer a ton of options you can customize to your individual needs.

Offered in bold colors from “Goldenrod” to “Earthtone” color selections, you are sure to find a color that matches your décor. In addition, you can choose between a privacy liner or a blackout liner if privacy and light control is of major importance to you.

A key feature of our 2” Solids and Textured Pleated Shades is the “Cordless & Top Down/Bottom Up” feature. This feature gives you the ability to open the shade from the top down and/or from the bottom up depending on your preference. The good thing about being able to open the shade from the “top down” is it allows you to have privacy at the lower part of your window yet still be able to view out the top of the window. The cordless feature is a bonus as there is no cords to operate or get tangled. You simply use the tabs to raise and lower the shade.

If you have a double window or just prefer to be able to open part of your window at a time, you can consider the “2 on 1” headrail option which means there are 2 shades hanging from one headrail. You can operate the shades individual of each other.

If you are looking for a stylish window treatment that adds a modern twist to your décor, you may want to check out our 2” Solids and Textured Shades.

Cordless Blinds and Cordless Shades for Children's rooms
By Seth
8/31/2011 10:38:00 PM
In recent years the window treatment industry has been under scrutiny due to child safety concerns. I would suggest that the industry has responded strongly by developing innovative products without cords that are functional without sacrificing form. As a parent myself I would highly recommend taking a look at some of our cordless blinds and shades for your child's room(s) or windows that are easily accessable. While safety is a major concern, cordless blinds offer other benefits - they are quite simple to lift and lower and you don't clutter the space around your windows with unsightly cords.

My wife and I recently put a set of blackout cordless cellular shades in my 3-year-old daughter's room. They are wonderful insulators, and the blackout characteristics ensure our little rooster doesn't start cackling at first morning light.  My daughter likes the crinkles and that she can lift them herself. We also just launched a new smooth-lift solar shade that I am considering putting in our family room. The shade cuts-down the sun, looks fantastic and has an easy, smooth lift mechanism. There are plenty of other excellent options, cordless roman shades and even cordless mini blinds.

Just a few years ago cordless blinds were either not yet available or cost an arm and a leg. However, in current day, many of our products have a cordless upgrade option, and generally it is only a nominal upgrade fee, or no upgrade fee at all.

Please let us know if we can help you find the perfect cordless window treatment option for you and your family!
