Three ways to create a minimalist interior

If you're tired of looking at the same old discount window treatments, furniture and accent decor in your living space, you might want to freshen up your interior by utilizing the concept of minimalism. Whether you love the idea of using cellular shades or shedding your traditional couch for a modular one, there's no better time to do so than now. Even if you aren't a professional interior designer, you can still utilize a few tips to make sure your home is as beautiful as you've always wanted it to be.

1. Get rid of clutter
It can be challenging to establish a minimalist interior if you have an ample amount of clutter around, according to SheKnows. For this reason, it's important to get rid of any items you have scattered about your living spaces before you try to revamp its decor.

"Conceal as much stuff as you can behind cabinets, or in a series of tasteful boxes or baskets and anchor table top items on a tray to tidy it all together," Jessica Moreau, interior designer, told the news source.

2. Embrace clean lines
Clean lines and hard edges make up the basics of minimalism, and it's important to incorporate them into your space if you want to give it a fresh appearance, according to MSN. To add visual interest to your pieces and keep them from looking boring, utilize materials such as wood to create a sense of warmth. There's also no rule that says your contemporary pieces have to be black and white. Use bold colors to bring flair to your rooms.

3. Live within your means
Many people shy away from the concept of minimalism because they think it may make them uncomfortable. However, this doesn't have to be the case - Mother Earth Living recommends going with what you're comfortable with and you'll be pleasantly surprised at the end results. Living with less doesn't necessarily mean you have to lack coziness. Explore all of the options available to you when it comes to everything from flooring to wood blinds to find items that meet your needs.

By taking these tips into account, you can create a minimalist home that pleases the eye and meets your interior design goals. In the end, you'll also gain more confidence in decorating, which you may be able to put toward projects in the future.
