Trend spotted: Fall whites

Decorating with white is nothing new - a completely bleached room that still looks interesting is the ultimate symbol of design flair. But now designers are loving this trend for fall, paired with autumn staples and accent colors. Here are some tips for combining fall decor with an all-white palette.

Cream and white
Mixing cream with white is an excellent way to warm up a blanche color scheme. It allows you to adhere to the general theme without sacrificing coziness. The best way to utilize these two shades is to just go for it. It's hard to go wrong with the combination, so feel free to decorate with no holds barred. If you are truly nervous, do the simple thing: Keep the walls white, upholster your furnishings and custom window treatments in cream, and add a few gold accents to marry the two.

Autumn naturals
What says "autumn is here" better than pumpkins and fallen leaves? Lucky for us, both of these things can be used in your interior design, and in your all-white room to boot. In addition to carving charming jack-o-lanterns to light up your porch, consider painting a few pumpkins white and decorating your mantle with them. You can line up a perfect row of tiny bleached pumpkins on your windowsill behind your discount window treatments, or arrange a few of varied sizes on your dining room table for a perfect seasonal centerpiece.

Another fun DIY project is to gather fallen leaves from your yard and use them to fashion a wreath. Spray paint just the tops of the leaves white and leave the underside their natural color - this will create a dimension while allowing some of fall's natural colors to peek through.

Fall patterns
Since the most important part of decorating a monochrome room is varying the patterns to add visual interest, take this opportunity to utilize some of the popular patterns for this fall. According to HGTV, one of the print trends this season includes nature-inspired patterns on a large scale. Try to find a wallpaper or fabric in a white, off-white combination that depicts graphic florals or other plant-based motifs to adorn your all-alabaster room. Or find a low-contrast animal print that heavily features white to capitalize on one of fall's other popular patterns.
