If you've been waiting to change your discount window treatments, wallpaper and furnishings until the new year, there's no better time to begin your project than now - but what if you don't know where to start? If there's an ample amount of work to be done around the house, it can be intimidating to try and tackle the entire project without brainstorming beforehand.

That being said, you can get off on the right foot by taking some of the hottest interior design trends of 2013 into consideration. By familiarizing yourself with up and coming styles, it'll be easier for you to select everything from wood blinds to chairs for your home. Here are some of the top trends worth noting as the new year begins.

1. A mix of materials
Oregon Live reports that more people are experimenting with different textures and patterns in order to create unique living spaces. Whether you're remodeling your bathroom or your bedroom, it's worth taking this trend into account. Different materials can add more character to your space without requiring the use of overwhelming colors. Keep this in mind as you search for throw pillows, linens and curtains.

2. Embrace green.
The Pantone color institute recently named emerald its color of 2013, but green in general will be making its presence known throughout the year, according to The Canadian Press. Take this color into consideration as you purchase new items for your home. Whether you need a new lamp shade or comforter, a shade of green might be just what you're looking for to create a sense of tranquility.

3. Go natural.
Another trend worth noting if you're updating a living space in your home is the lean toward natural materials, according to Everything from bamboo to repurposed carpeting is coming into style, and with good reason. As more people look for ways to reduce their carbon footprints, they're doing so through their homes. Natural materials are also now being manufactured to cater to the design desires of professionals and homeowners alike.

Whether you're going to be sprucing up your home in the spring or during the upcoming weekend, these three tips can help you along the way. Furthermore, acknowledging new trends can make it easier for you to update your space in a unique way that reflects your personal taste.
