Making a larger-than-life space feel like home

There's nothing worse than coming home and feeling like you've just walked into a dark, dull space with little life. At the end of the day, you want to feel warm, welcomed and comfortable. That being said, it might be time for you to consider putting up new discount window treatments, wallpaper and decor to cater to your personal taste in your entryway.

Whether you walk into your living room or a foyer when you step into the house, you want it to say, "Welcome home." However, this might be difficult to do if the first room you see is large in size. Some interior designers dream of decorating larger-than-life spaces, but a vast area can be a problem in itself. How do you make it feel cozier and homey? Here are a few tips on how to warm up an expansive area and turn it into one of the highlights of your house.

1. Choose warming window treatments.
The right window treatments can make all of the difference when it comes to oversized spaces that could use a little TLC. Consider bringing in wood blinds to warm up the chilly, uninviting room. The material is enough to create a cozy sensation and blinds are easy to control - just open them when you want sunlight and close for privacy on a whim.

2. Add plushness below.
Perhaps the cold feeling of the room has to do with your flooring - can you say you sincerely enjoy the feeling beneath your feet when you walk into the room? If not, think about installing plush carpet to make the space that much more comfortable and cozy. Homeowners who have wood flooring can consider putting down a few area rugs.

3. Feel free to go dark with color.
TLC.com suggests being bold in your color choices to create an interior design that works for your large space. You might want to incorporate deep red or navy blue to make a splash in the room if it could use a little more flair. Furthermore, don't shy away from dark colors. While they might take away from the decor in a room with a limited amount of space, they can create a cozy feeling in an oversized one. By taking these tips into account, you can ensure your home always welcomes you when you walk in the door.
