To operate cordless woven wood shades you push the shade up to the position you want and the springs hold it in position. You pull it down by pulling on the bottom bar or on a tassel which hangs just below the bottom bar. The shade has a normal bottom bar, but behind the shade is another bar - called the control bar, to which the tassel is attached. This control bar is not visible from the front and it is attached to the lift cords of the shade, so it operates the cordless mechanism. The control bar is there because the spring system will tend to bounce back when you fully lower the shade. This control bar removes the bounce back so that the shade hangs completely flat when fully lowered.
